ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada — A man who allegedly carried two severed human heads into a police station was denied bail on Thursday after a large crowd gathered outside a courthouse and hurled insults at him.

Steve Gory, 32, did not say anything in court or show any emotion, and he was not accompanied by an attorney. Gory is expected to enter a plea on May 27.

Police say Gory showed up at a precinct Monday night carrying the heads in a plastic bucket. He was immediately detained and charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree murder.

Police say they found the headless bodies of a farmhand and the owner of a local tavern in a field. Authorities have not released any details about the suspect or a possible motive for the killings.

Gory, who lives in a rural village in St. Andrew parish, did not react as police escorted him through a crowd outside the courthouse to shouts of “Murderer! Killer!”

Family members of the victims cried as they entered and left the courtroom.

The beheadings have shocked people in the eastern Caribbean island of 91,000, where most crime is related to minor offenses such as robbery.
