Bombay High Court’s new chief justice sworn in

MUMBAI - Anil R. Dave was Thursday sworn in the new chief justice of the Bombay High Court by Governor K. Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan, an official said.
Justice Dave, 58, succeeds Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar who was elevated to the Supreme Court of India a few months ago.
Present at the oath-taking ceremony were Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Minister for Protocol Suresh Shetty, Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court J.N. Patel, other judges of the Bombay High Court, Upa-Lokayukta Johny Joseph, Director-General of Police A.N. Roy and eminent persons from various fields.
Chief Secretary J.P. Dange read out the notification of appointment of the new chief justice.
Justice Dave, who was until now chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, was born Nov 19, 1951. He enrolled as an advocate on July 25, 1976.
Justice Dave has also served as solicitor to the government of Gujarat and additional government pleader at the Gujarat High Court, from April 1986 to August 1994. Justice Dave was elevated to the Gujarat High Court as additional judge Sep 18, 1995.
He was appointed chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Jan 7, 2008.
