US man sought by FBI in rape case caught in Mexico
VERACRUZ, Mexico — Mexican prosecutors say they have arrested a suspect wanted by the FBI in the 2004 rapes of two young girls in Pennsylvania.
Veracruz state attorney general Salvador Mikel Rivera says Michael Cornelius Burke Jr. was arrested Monday in the town of Emiliano Zapata, in central Veracruz state.
Mikel Rivera said Tuesday that Mexican authorities located the 43-year-old Burke thanks to the help from civil organizations in Mexico and in the United States that track fugitives.
Burke is wanted for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for failing to show up for sentencing in May 2007. He pleaded guilty in April 2006 to the rape and assault of two girls ages 10 and 13 in Abington, Pennsylvania.
