Spanish king’s daughter to divorce
MADRID — Lawyers for Juan Carlos’ eldest child, Princess Elena and her husband Jaime de Marichalar say the two have agreed to divorce.
In a statement published in several newspapers Thursday, lawyers for the couple said the two had reached a mutual agreement to end their marriage but said they maintained strong ties in matters concerning their two children.
Both the lawyers and the Royal Palace confirmed the statement but could give no further details.
Elena married Jaime de Marichalar, a banker, in 1995. The palace announced their separation in November 2007.
Spain’s king and queen have two other children, Princess Cristina and Crown Prince Felipe.
