Sulabh founder gets Mittal national award

LUDHIANA - Social activist and founder of Sulabh International sanitation movement Bindeshwar Pathak was Thursday awarded the Sat Paul Mittal National Award 2009 for services to humanity.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal presented the award to Pathak at a function in this Punjab town, 100 km from state capital Chandigarh.
The award, instituted by the Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, carries an award of Rs.400,000 (Rs.4 lakh) in cash, a medal and a citation.
The trust initiated the award in the memory of Mittal, father of industrialists Sunil Mittal and Rakesh Mittal of the Airtel Bharti group.
Pathak, the recipient of the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize 2009, is known for his initiative to promote environmental sanitation, human rights and waste management.
