‘Survivor’ Hatch to end Mass. tax evasion sentence
BOURNE, Mass. — “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch is getting out of a Massachusetts jail after serving a 51-month sentence for evading taxes on the $1 million he won during the CBS reality show’s first season.
He’s being released Friday from the Barnstable County Jail in Bourne, southeast of Boston.
Hatch was imprisoned in 2006. He was released earlier this year to home confinement in Newport, R.I. In August, he was jailed for the remainder of his term for giving unauthorized television interviews.
Hatch claims prison officials were retaliating after he criticized the prosecutor and judge in his case.
Hatch must serve three years of supervised release, complete a mental health program and pay his back taxes.
Chief Probation Officer Barry Weiner (WEE’-ner) says Hatch doesn’t have a job but will have to find one.
