Trial delay in Angels pitcher Adenhart murder case
SANTA ANA, Calif. — The trial of a man charged with driving drunk and killing Los Angeles pitcher Nick Adenhart has been delayed for six months at the request of his new defense attorney.
On Friday, Superior Court Judge Richard Toohey rescheduled the trial for 22-year-old Andrew Thomas Gallo to April 19, 2010, to give Deputy Public Defender Bryan Harris time to prepare a defense. Harris was appointed after Gallo’s private attorney quit the case.
Prosecutors had hoped to go before a jury later this month.
Gallo is charged with three counts of second-degree murder for an April crash that killed Adenhart and two others.
Authorities say Gallo was drunk when he drove his minivan through a red light in Fullerton and hit another car.
He could face nearly 55 years to life in prison if convicted.
