Ore. man accused of arranging sex with teen

NEWBERG, Ore. — A 44-year-old man was accused of rape, sodomy and other sex-related crimes, including posting Craigslist ads to solicit others to join in group sex with a 14-year-old girl, authorities said Wednesday.

Darrin Daily, of Newberg, and four other people have been arrested, including three men and a woman who allegedly had sex with the teenager.

Authorities learned about the alleged crimes on Sept. 4 when a 15-year-old girl told police that Daily had given her marijuana and alcohol and had sex with her. He was arrested a week later.

Police searched his apartment and seized evidence, including his computer.

Another girl, 14, later told police she visited Daily every other weekend from February to this past Labor Day weekend and they usually had sex, according to court documents released Wednesday. She said Daily once tied her up in what she and Daily called “raping her” although she was consenting to it.

Under Oregon law, a person under 16 is not old enough to consent to sex with someone older than 18.

She also said that Daily posted ads on Craigslist seeking men “interested in engaging in group sex with her,” according to the documents, and that she had sex with men and a woman at Daily’s home. The 14-year-old also said Daily took pictures of her having sex with his dog.

Detectives who analyzed Daily’s computer found images of the girl having sex with adults and the dog.

The 15-year-old told police she had met Daily at a swimming pool, and that Daily’s daughter, who was with him, asked her to visit, according to court documents. When she visited she smoked marijuana with him and he provided alcohol, according to the documents. She said Daily “got too high,” took her to a bedroom and they had sex.

Officials also found images of a 4-year-old girl being sexually abused. Detectives learned the identity of that girl, who told them she had been sexually abused by Daily, according to police. Police have not yet said how Daily knew the 4-year-old, who is being cared for at a child abuse assessment center.

Daily has not been charged with any crime related to the 4-year-old, Yamhill County prosecutor Lisl Miller said.

Neighbors said Daily had moved into the apartment early this year, appeared to have no job, rarely left and had frequent visitors. They say his two daughters and a small dog named Buddy lived with him.

The allegations shocked the sedate community in Oregon’s renowned wine country.

“It’s disgusting. It’s beyond sick,” said Kim McCabe, who lives near Daily’s place and had just heard about it on the news.

Daily is being held on $1 million bail in the Yamhill County Jail. He is accused of rape, sodomy, sex abuse, sexual assault of an animal, delivery of marijuana to a minor, online sexual corruption of a child, endangering the welfare of a minor and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

Authorities said the three men accused of responding to the Craigslist ad and taking part in the sex abuse are Patricio Moreno, 43, of Forest Grove; Robert D. Thompson, 34, of Portland; and David Garcia, 41, of McMinnville. They also were jailed in Yamhill County, although Garcia posted bail.

Thompson, Garcia and Moreno are all charged with sex abuse and rape. Thompson faced an additional charge of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, while Moreno is accused of sodomy.

Police also arrested Alisa Nice, 31, of McMinnville, who is alleged to have been engaged in group sex with the 14-year-old. She was charged Wednesday with two counts of sexual abuse, sodomy and using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct. She was held on $160,000 bail.

Daily’s attorney, Bernt Hansen, did not immediately return phone calls.

Thompson’s attorney, Janmarie Dielschneider, said: “At this point innocent until proven guilty is all I have.”

Moreno’s lawyer, Michael Finch, refused to comment.

It was not clear whether Garcia and Nice had attorneys as of Wednesday afternoon.
