Judge orders trial in Mexico subway shooting
MEXICO CITY — A Mexican judge has ordered a trial for a man who opened fire with a pistol in a crowded Mexico City subway station, killing two people.
A statement issued by the court Wednesday says Luis Felipe Hernandez will be tried for homicide in the slayings of a police officer and a civilian and for the attempted murder of two other police officers.
The 38-year-old Hernandez was allegedly writing an anti-government statement on a wall at the packed Balderas station Friday when a police officer confronted him.
A video from a station security camera recorded Hernandez fatally shooting the officer and then a commuter who tried to disarm him. Eight other people suffered various injuries as Hernandez continued firing in the station.
