China sentences four people over syringe attack

URUMQI - A court in China Thursday ordered four people to serve in prison ranging from eight to 15 years for stabbing a pedestrian with a syringe in the northwestern Chinese city of Urumqi.
On Sep 3, Abdulrusul Abdukhadi stabbed a woman in the neck in an underground passage with the help of three others, identified as Ablimit Memet, Rehman Raziq and Abdulkeyum Ayup, according to the Municipal Intermediate People’s Court of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The four accused were captured at the scene of the attack that caused widespread protests in Urumqi.
Abdulrusul Abdukhadi and Ablimit Memet were sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Rehman Raziq and Abdulkeyum Ayup were sentenced to 12 and eight years in prison, respectively.
