BANGALORE - Karnataka Lokayukta (Ombudsman) Santosh Hegde Wednesday resigned from the constitutional post, 14 months before his five-year term was to end.

“I have tendered my resignation letter to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan,” Hegde told reporters here.

The resignation will be effective from Aug 31.

“The main reason for my resignation is the indifference of the state government to this institution. The decision to resign has not been take on the spur of the moment or emotional one,” Hegde said.
