NEW DELHI - Two ex-service men, who were operating their buses under the State Transport Authority (STA) of Delhi government, Friday approached the Delhi High Court seeking direction to renew their permits to run buses on the capital’s roads.

Filing an application before a division bench headed by Justice A.K. Sikri, the two alleged the STA has placed their buses in the category of “Blueline” private buses and stopped renewing their permits after December 2010.

However, the court did not grant any relief and asked the petitioners to file a separate writ petition as the court has reserved its order on phasing out of the killer Blueline buses.

“The STA has been granting permits under a different scheme to provide rehabilitation, employment and resettlement to the retired defence personnel,” reads the petition.

Claiming that the permits were granted to them under a different scheme, the petitioners said “non-renewal of permits of their buses is absolutely illegal, arbitrary and unconstitutional and the court should clarify that the PIL pertaining to phase-out of blueline buses has no bearings on their permits”.
