Gujarat tribunal ex-chief moves high court for salary dues

GANDHINAGAR - A retired Gujarat High Court judge has approached the court claiming salary dues on the ground that he should have been paid a higher salary than what he got during his nearly 10-month tenure as a tribunal chairman in 2006.

Former judge H.H. Mehta approached the high court after the state government rejected his claim for salary at the rate of Rs.80,000 per month, double of what he was paid.

He headed the Gujarat Public Works Contracts Arbitration Tribunal from Jan 1, 2006, to Oct 12, 2006.

The matter was listed for Thursday but was put off till Jan 18.

The state government rejected the former judge’s representation Feb 6, 2010, claiming that the demand was not tenable.

The retired judge claimed in his plea that he was entitled to salary as per the state government resolutions and directives of the central government.
