Court summons Pakistani sports minister, PCB chairman

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Tuesday issued summons to Pakistani Sports Minister Ijaz Jakhrani and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt over the match-fixing allegations against the country’s cricketers.
The petitioner, advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry, told the court that the cricketers involved in match fixing allegations have maligned the name of Pakistan worldwide, and sought stern punishment for them.
Mazhar Majeed, a 35-year-old agent, was caught on videotape accepting 150,000 pounds in a sting operation conducted by The News of the World tabloid in London.
Three Pakistani cricketers — captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir — are charged with under-performing in the fourth Test match between England and Pakistan at Lord’s.
Ishtiaq Chaudhry Tuesday asked the court to ban the involved players from all forms of cricket for life. The players should be tried on charges of sedition and their properties should be seized, he told the court.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till Sep 7.
