CA judge seeks harsher sentence for Ex-UFC fighter

SAN DIEGO — A San Diego judge says he is not inclined to honor a plea deal for former Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor War Machine and thinks the case calls for state prison.

Judge David Danielsen was scheduled Thursday to sentence the 28-year-old fighter to a year in jail for assaulting two people and violating probation on another case.

But Danielsen rescheduled the sentencing for Aug. 24, saying War Machine’s assertion that he had not read the terms of the plea deal and statements he made to a probation officer have made him reconsider.

The judge says the fighter’s words and actions show a “certain disrespect to anybody other than himself.”

War Machine legally changed his name from Jon Koppenhaver.
