PHOENIX, ARIZONA (GaeaTimes.com) — The implementation of SB 1070 has come across a hurdle. Perceived as the toughest State laws on immigration, people across Arizona were livid at the prospect of the law being passed. The protests and rallies that were held across the state of Arizona have finally paid-off. Susan Bolton a US District judge blocked certain key elements in the law that made it unfair. The law was to come into effect within a few days.
The ruling can be considered as a milestone for the people of Arizona, who were very vocal about the SB 1070 ’s discriminatory provisions. The SB 1070 law enabled the police officers to stop and search individuals, who they believed could also be illegal immigrants. This rule required immigrants to always carry identity-proof with them.
Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer believes that there is nothing illegal about the bill. She believes that a temporary injunction, such as this does not imply that the law will be scrapped.
Incidentally, 12 Hispanic workers of a Pei Wei restaurant were sacked for attending a rally protesting the SB 1070.
