PATNA - Both houses of the Bihar Legislature were adjourned over pandemonium created by ruling NDA and opposition members to counter each other over the Patna High Court order for CBI probe into an alleged irregularities in the execution of development schemes.

As soon as the five-day session of the legislature began this morning, opposition members waving placards demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

As they continued shouting, ruling NDA MLAs outnumbered them in the well demanding resignation of the UPA Government at the Centre for its failure to check escalating prices of essential commodities.

Speaker U N Choudhary had to adjourn the house till noon.

In the second phase, Choudhary accepted a notice by Lal Babu Rai (Independent) who sought a debate on the CAG report that formed the basis for CBI probe and cited precedence. As the din continued unabated, the Speaker adjourned the house till 2.30 pm.

On Monday, the state government sought a stay on the Patna High Court order for a CBI probe into alleged financial irregularities in development schemes from 2002 to 2008, pleading that CAG report on the issue was pending for “consideration” before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the state assembly.

The CAG report was presented in the state assembly on July 14, 2009 after the approval of the state governor and subsequently, referred to Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the house for consideration. (ANI)
