Jury convicts man in London jewel heist
LONDON — A jury has convicted a man of taking part in an armed robbery that netted 40 million pounds ($60 million) worth of gems from an upmarket London jeweler.
Jurors at London’s Woolwich Crown Court found 24-year-old Aman Kassaye guilty Friday of kidnapping, conspiracy to rob and possessing a firearm.
They are still deliberating about six other accused members of the gang.
The theft of rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches from Graff Diamonds on London’s posh Bond Street last August was one of the biggest heists in British history.
Police say two men, disguised with professional makeup, walked into the store, pulled out guns, briefly took an employee hostage and escaped with the jewels in a series of getaway cars.
