LUCKNOW - The Samajwadi Party (SP) said Monday that its lawyers and experts will provide free-of-cost legal assistance to the poor people of Uttar Pradesh.

“In all the 71 districts of the state, our lawyers and experts, who are attached to the legal cell of their respective districts, would offer free legal assistance to those people who otherwise are not able to afford it,” senior Samajwadi Party leader Ahmad Hassan told reporters here.

“SP has always taken up issues concerning the poor and other weaker sections of the society. Now, as a part of its social responsibility, the party has decided to offer legal assistance to the poor across the state. All officials of the party’s legal cell have been instructed to start offering legal assistance,” added Hassan, who is also the leader of opposition in the state council.

According to party officials, besides offering legal assistance, the legal experts of the party may also contest a case related to poor people.

“Besides assisting the poor in their cases related to land disputes, police atrocities and other legal issues, the move will immensely help those also who have been falsely implicated under the SC/ST act at the behest of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government,” Hassan said.
