Survivor of NJ schoolyard killings details attack
NEWARK, N.J. — A young woman who survived a brutal attack that left three others dead in a New Jersey schoolyard has made her first public statement since the 2007 killings.
The woman testified in court Thursday about the execution-style killings in a Newark schoolyard in August 2007. The then-19-year-old fought for her life through gunshot and stab wounds as her slain friends lay yards away.
Rodolfo Godinez (goh-DEE’-nez) is the first of six defendants charged in the killings to stand trial.
The woman is not being identified by The Associated Press because two defendants have been charged with sexual assaulting her.
The schoolyard killings focused national attention on violent crime in New Jersey’s largest city.
