Trainer’s family wants SeaWorld death video sealed
ORLANDO, Fla. — Relatives of a SeaWorld trainer killed by a whale in Florida say they will suffer severe harm if video of the incident is released.
Trainer Dawn Brancheau died in Orlando last month when a killer whale named Tilikum dragged her into the water and thrashed her around after a performance.
Attorney Jon Mills said at a hearing Wednesday that her family’s right to privacy outweighs the public’s right to view the video made by a SeaWorld camera.
Circuit Judge Lawrence Kirkwood didn’t immediately rule on the family’s request to permanently keep the video from being released to the public. He issued a temporary injunction last week.
An attorney representing news organizations said she didn’t object to an extension of the injunction so all sides could reach a resolution.
