UK Guantanamo prisoner seeks torture documents
LONDON — Lawyers representing the last British resident imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba are in court seeking the release of documents relating to his treatment by American agents.
Lawyers representing terrorism suspect Shaker Aamer say the documents will show that British officials were present when he was abused by Americans agents during interrogations that took place in Afghanistan.
Judge Jeremy Sullivan said Tuesday the case involves allegations that British officials have been mixed up in torture.
Lawyer Richard Hermer told the court that Aamer is still being mistreated at Guantanamo despite the new presidential administration in the United States.
Aamer is a 42-year-old Saudi-born man with a British wife who says he was tortured in 2002.
