Missouri father and his 4 adult sons make brief appearance in court on sex abuse charges

5 suspects appear in Mo. court, new charges filed

LEXINGTON, Mo. — A Missouri father and his sons have been arraigned on charges that they sexually abused many children years ago.

During a brief court appearance Tuesday, four of the five men said they were still working to find attorneys. Only 48-year-old Jared Leroy Mohler said he had hired a lawyer.

The men are charged with rape and other felonies against children from the mid-1980s to 1995. They were originally charged last week and 15 additional sex abuse charges were filed against them on Monday.

Authorities have searched a rural property outside Bates City, about 30 miles east of Kansas City, Mo., where members of the Mohler family once lived.

The men are due back in court in early December.
