Motorcycle club leader due back in W.Va. court
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The indicted national president of the Pagans Motorcycle Club is due back in federal court.
David Barbeito is scheduled to enter a plea to racketeering charges Thursday. U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Stanley also may decide whether the 49-year-old Myersville, Md.-resident should remain held without bond.
Prosecutors argue there’s no way to protect the public and witnesses if Barbeito is freed. Barbeito is among 55 Pagans charged in a 44-count indictment.
The judge ordered Barbeito held last week after he appeared in court without counsel. He also faces state kidnapping and conspiracy charges.
Barbeito is the lead defendant in the case involving Pagans from West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Florida.
