Ore. man indicted on new charges in sex abuse case
McMINNVILLE, Ore. — An Oregon man accused of using Craigslist to arrange group sex with a 14-year-old girl and photograph it has been indicted on new charges involving a 4-year-old girl.
Darrin Daily, of Newberg, appeared in Yamhill County Circuit Court on Friday to hear the charges in a new indictment involving the child. Daily, 44, was charged with sex abuse and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.
His bail was set at $1 million. Bail had been set at $1 million on previous charges involving the teenager, bringing the total to $2 million.
Lisl Miller, deputy district attorney for Yamhill County, said the new charges involve three separate incidents with the 4-year-old. Miller declined to comment further.
The indictment graphically describes the alleged conduct, but other details, such as how Daily knew the girl, were not disclosed.
Robert Thompson, of Portland; and David Garcia and Alisa Nice, both of McMinnville, also face charges involving the teenager and appeared in court Friday.
Daily, Thompson and Nice all appeared by video conference from jail, but Garcia had posted bail and was in the courtroom with his attorney, Jeffrey Jones of Salem. Both declined comment to reporters as they left the courthouse.
Prosecutors allege Daily posted ads on Craigslist seeking people to have sex with the teenage girl while he photographed them. Authorities say Thompson and Garcia responded. Details about Nice’s involvement in the incident have not been disclosed.
Thompson, 34, and Garcia, 41, are charged with sex abuse and rape, while Nice, 31, is charged with sexual abuse and sodomy. Thompson and Nice also are charged with using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct. Daily’s many charges involving the teenager include rape, sex abuse and sodomy. He’s also charged with sexual assault on an animal.
Bail was set at $750,000 for Thompson, $160,000 for Nice and $100,000 for Garcia.
No pleas were entered, but appearances were set for Monday for Daily, Oct. 26 for Thompson and Nice, and Nov. 2 for Garcia.
A fifth person charged in the case involving the teenager, Patricio Moreno, 43, of Forest Grove, did not appear Friday. He is charged with rape, sex abuse and sodomy.
