UK hacker’s latest extradition appeal fails
LONDON — A British man accused of hacking into U.S. military computers has failed in his latest bid to avoid extradition to the United States.
The High Court on Friday refused to allow Gary McKinnon to take his case to Britain’s new Supreme Court.
U.S. prosecutors accuse McKinnon of tampering with dozens of computers belonging to NASA, the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Department of Defense shortly after the Sept 11, 2001 terror attacks. They have spent seven years seeking his extradition from the U.K.
McKinnon’s lawyers argue that the 43-year-old should not be extradited because he suffers from a form of autism.
McKinnon’s extradition now depends on whether his lawyers decide to mount another legal challenge.
