Ohio court: Forge ahead with next inmate execution
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Supreme Court says problems with a recent planned lethal injection aren’t enough to delay next week’s execution of a different man who strangled his 67-year-old neighbor.
The court on Thursday rejected Lawrence Reynolds’ request to put off his Oct. 8 execution after the state’s unprecedented failed attempt to execute someone.
Gov. Ted Strickland stopped the Sept. 15 execution of Romell Broom after executioners struggled for two hours to find a usable vein.
Reynolds argued that Ohio’s lethal injection system should be investigated before the state tries to put him to death.
Prosecutors say difficulties with Broom’s execution don’t mean there will be similar issues with Reynolds’ procedure.
