NCAA: FSU cheating case should not be made public
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The NCAA is again arguing that its communication with Florida State on the university’s academic cheating case should not be public record.
Attorneys for the sports governing body appealed a lower court ruling Friday, claiming a circuit court judge erred when he ordered the NCAA to release documents in the case to comply with Florida law.
A three-judge panel of the 1st District Court of Appeal was expected to rule at a later date.
The Associated Press and other media are seeking documents on Florida State’s appeal of the NCAA’s intention to strip coaches and athletes of wins in 10 sports. That includes as many as 14 from football coach Bobby Bowden, which would hurt his chances of surpassing Penn State’s Joe Paterno for most wins by a major college coach.
