AHMEDABAD - A special court here Friday granted Babu Bajrangi, an alleged conspirator of the 2002 communal riots at Naroda Patiya, time till June 29 to file his reply to a lawyer’s plea seeking cancellation of his bail for threatening him.

Advocate R.A. Sheikh, who represents a few victims of the massacre case, alleged that Bajrangi last Friday threatened him of dire consequences for raising his voice against him.

Another lawyer, S.M. Vora, who also represents the riot victims, had submitted before the court that Sheikh was threatened of “consequences” by Bajrangi, in a lobby outside the courtroom.

After taking the application on record, special judge Jyotsana Yagnik asked Bajrangi to file his reply on the incident. This would be apart from his undertaking that he would not approach victims, complainants or their lawyers for any purpose.

Over 95 Muslims were killed and their property destroyed in Naroda Patia and Naroda Gam in Ahmedabad by a mob on February 28, 2002 following the Godhra train burning. Bajrangi is accused of conspiring the massacre.
