Lahore High Court orders govt to block blasphemous content still present on Facebook

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court (LHC) has adjourned the hearing of the petition against social networking website Facebook till July 9.

The court also directed the Pakistan Information Ministry to devise a system through which blasphemous content targeting Islam and other religions can be blocked.

Taking note of the petitioner’s counsel, Azhar Siddique, who told the court that blasphemous content was still present on Facebook, the court directed the ministry to control the availability of such content, The Dawn reports.

Meanwhile, the ministry said that it will set up a complaint cell in this regard and action pertaining to a complaint will be taken within 24 hours.

The hearing was attended by Telecommunications Director Ali Mehmood and Deputy Attorney-General Naveed Inayat. (ANI)
