NEW DELHI - The Supreme Court will pronounce today its verdict on appeals challenging the Calcutta High Court’s order for a fresh CBI probe into the death of Kolkata-based design professional Rizwanur Rahman.

A bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan had on February 22 reserved its verdict after concluding the hearing on cross appeals filed by Ashok Todi, whose daughter Priyanka had married Rizwanur.

The Calcutta High Court had on May 18 directed the CBI to start fresh investigation into Rizwanur’s murder case.

The court had affirmed that the investigation is inadequate and asked the agency to start a fresh investigation in the case.

Rizwanur’s body was found on the railway tracks between Biddhanagar Road and Dum Dum Junction on September 21 last year, almost a month after his marriage to Todi”s daughter Priyanka.

Though police is convinced that it was a case of suicide, Rizwanur’s family members are not convinced and have moved the higher courts for a CBI inquiry. (ANI)
