CHANDIGARH - In the wake of rejection of visa applications of some Indian police and army officials by the Canadian consulate, Canada Thursday said it was reviewing its legal obligations.

“We have already issued a statement in late May, expressing regret if there was any misunderstanding. Canada recognises India as a great democracy, which has many security challenges, and respects the tradition of its army and security agencies,” said Canadian Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney told reporters here.

“I have also discussed the issue of rejection of visas with Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram. We are also reviewing the legal obligations that were involved in it. Anybody, who was involved in serious crimes and has criminal past, cannot be allowed to enter Canada,” he said.
