LONDON - Supermodel Naomi Campbell has admitted she was given “dirty-looking” stones after a dinner attended by then Liberian leader Charles Taylor, which she was later told were diamonds.

She was testifying at Taylor’s war crimes trial about allegations he gave her “blood diamonds” as a gift in 1997, reports bbc.co.uk.

Prosecutors had said her evidence could help link Taylor to the stones, which he is accused of using to fund the civil war in Sierra Leone.

Campbell told the court that two men knocked on her door in the middle of night as she stayed at the home of former South African president Nelson Mandela and presented her with a pouch containing gems.

“They were very small, dirty looking stones,” dailystar.co.uk quoted Campbell as saying.
