Tennessee housing discrimination suit settled

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The U.S. Justice Department has settled its lawsuit alleging that 21 multifamily housing complexes in Tennessee discriminated on the basis of disability.

The suit had been filed against the owners and developers involved in the design and construction of the complexes.

The settlement must be approved by the U.S. District Court in Nashville. Under the settlement, Murphy Development LLC and 22 defendants will pay all costs to make the units accessible to persons with disabilities, pay up to $350,000 to individuals affected by the inaccessible housing and pay $75,000 to the United States.
